Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for
CME Activities on the Internet


INTRODUCTION
The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UM-SoM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UM-SoM requires that all activities that it sponsors comply with the Essential Areas and Policies of the ACCME, and, if designated for credit, with the requirements of the American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award or other appropriate entity.

The Office of Graduate and Continuing Medical Education (OGCME) will conduct all Internet CME activities in compliance with the University of Maryland School of Medicine Policies and Guidelines Concerning the Publication of Information via the World-Wide Web (http://medschool.umaryland.edu/IS/WWWPolicies.html).

Internet Privacy Policy
  • Personal Information: The University of Maryland School of Medicine and COACH do not routinely collect personal information on our website. Where such information is collected it is not shared outside the school and is only used for the purpose for which it was requested. Any exceptions to this policy are explicitly and clearly noted when the information is collected.

  • Cookies: Some pages on this web site may set cookies on your web browser. These cookies are used to enable the site to remember what you have previously done during that visit, and are retained for the duration of the visit only.

  • Learners will be clearly notified when they are leaving the educational website.

  • COACH members' names will not be listed on the website without their written consent.
All Internet CME Activities will adhere to the following guidelines:
  1. Activities will not be posted on a commercial site, including but not limited to a pharmaceutical or device manufacturer's website.

  2. Learners will be clearly notified when are leaving the educational website. Links from the CME website to a commercial website may not be embedded in the educational content of a CME activity. Links to commercial websites will be permitted before or after the educational content of the CME activity.

  3. Advertising of any type, including but not limited to, banner ads, subliminal ads, and pop-up window ads are prohibited.

  4. At the beginning of all activities learners will be informed of the hardware and software required for the learner to participate.

  5. A mechanism will be provided to enable the learner to contact the OGCME and/or the Webmaster if there are questions about the Internet CME activity.

  6. The OGCME will maintain documentation that it owns the copyright for, or has received permission for use of, or is otherwise permitted to use copyrighted materials within a CME activity on the Internet.
