About COACH

Mission Statement
To improve the cardiovascular health of patients by raising awareness of the new science underlying cardiovascular disease and speeding the translation of this information into practical clinical medicine.

Background
COACH was formed in 1999. The rationale for establishing COACH came with the recognition that the role of the primary-care physician was rapidly expanding. With medical science advancing at a rapid rate, the goal of COACH is to help primary-care physicians assimilate the proven findings of scientific research into the day-to-day practice of clinical medicine, all in the interest of improving outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease. The COACH initiative consists of certified CME activities as well as a variety of educational resources, including Office Practice SeminarsTM and monographs. COACH continues the time-honored tradition of physician-to-physician education.

Sponsorship
COACH has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and MEDCON. The University of Maryland School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Funding
COACH is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, King Pharmaceuticals Inc, and Pfizer Inc.
