SANDS trial: Beneficial effects of lower BP and LDL-C targets

Source: Multicenter trial of 548 men and women aged 40 or more years who had diabetes and were of Native American descent.

Key finding: "The group treated to lower targets had an improvement (decrease) in IMT [intimal medial thickness] and thus a regression of atherosclerosis, whereas the standard treatment group had a worsening (increase) in IMT. There was also a greater decrease in LVMI [left ventricular mass index] in the aggressive group."
